In-Store Testing – Montezuma’s Chilli and Lime Chocolate

This week we added Montezuma’s Chilli and Lime Milk Chocolate bar to our range – their flavours are always interesting, often unconventional and ever so slightly Willy Wonka ish!

We thought we’d try out this new flavour on some of our unsuspecting customers, while sampling the odd square ourselves and these were some of the quotes:

Paul “Oooh, I just got the chilli, very interesting  - it’s nice, I like it!”

Abi “I can’t work out whether I like it or not.”

Heather ” Mmm, so far I think it’s lovely, mmm it’s gorgeous very limey – oooh, now I can feel the heat and it’s warmed me up!”

Hannah “The creamy sweetness of the milk chocolate cut with lime, gives way to the mouth-tingling warmth of the chilli.”

Last but not least, we sprung this on one of our favourite delivery drivers – Keith (and didn’t tell him it had chilli in it) he said “First you get the lime, then the chocolate and then a great kick from the chilli” – this is him mid-tasting:

What’s the difference between cacao powder and cocoa powder?

A customer asked me this today and for a while I was stumped? Is there a difference?

There’s been a growing trend over the last few years for raw cacao. Packed with antioxidant goodness it’s a greatsource of iron and magnesium, which support healthy heart function.

Chocolate also contains “feel-good” chemicals such as phenylethlamine, tryptophan, and anandamide that naturally occur in the brain and aid a sense of well-being.

But back to the difference. “Cacao” refers to the bean that comes from the cacao tree, Theobroma cacao. These beans are harvested, fermented and dried and often cleaned and roasted, after which point the products are often referred to as “cocoa.” In other words, “cocoa” is what the bean is called after it has been processed.

So in short, if you’re after the raw product, go for ‘cacao’ whereas ‘cocoa’ refers to the processed product.
